The hair contains a pigment (melanin) that captures the emitted light and transforms it into heat. The duration of a laser hair removal session depends on the size of the area to be treated. They range from a minimum of about 10 minutes, for small and simple areas, to a maximum of 45 minutes for larger areas. Obviously, the times add up for multi-area treatments.

After each treatment session, the hairs fall out over the next few days, varying from person to person, leaving the skin clean. At this stage, some have already been permanently eliminated and will no longer grow back, while others will start to grow back. When they are visible, it will be time for a new session. And so on, until the full process is complete.

Before the session, the skin must be healthy and free from cuts, and must not have been exposed to the sun in the previous 3–4 days. We recommend that you shave the hair with a razor the day before the session, and check that you have not taken any medication that may have photosensitising effects. The skin in the area to be treated must be clean and cleansed. All details will be explained by the practitioners during the consultation.

Laser hair removal is not contraindicated during breastfeeding, but hormonal imbalances may require more sessions to achieve the desired result.

We do not recommend undergoing laser hair removal while pregnant. We recommend waiting three months after giving birth to allow your hormones to stabilise. If you become pregnant during the course of hair removal treatments, we recommend discontinuing treatment and resuming after pregnancy.

We normally recommend starting the permanent laser hair removal process after the age of 16, because younger teenagers are still developing and their hormones are in a state of flux.

Permanent laser hair removal treatments do not affect silicone implants.
Permanent make-up (especially dark colours) and tattoos absorb the light energy: to ensure the session is as safe as possible, the practitioner should always cover any tattoos and permanent make-up in the treated areas with a white pencil.

The skin on the top of your head is more sensitive than the rest of the body and can be susceptible to sunburn. However, we can carry out a test in a limited area to monitor your reaction and determine if the treatment is viable.

Yes, there should not be any issue with the treatment.

After a permanent laser hair removal session, there may be some slight local reddening or swelling in the treated area, which will quickly disappear.

With epìLate, you can! Our state-of-the-art laser technology does not need a strong contrast between your skin and hair colour in order to work, but ideally, your skin should not be very tanned. Try not to expose your skin to the sun in the 3–4 days before the laser hair removal treatment.

Momentary folliculitis may appear – and may be more prolonged on particularly sensitive skin – but it normally disappears after a short time.

Laser hair removal can be carried out safely on normal and flat moles, but our specialised practitioners will cover the moles with a white pencil.

Hair growth is cyclical: the hair follicles go through alternating phases of growth and rest. Only hairs that are in the growth phase (anagen) are connected to the bulb, and can thus transmit the destructive energy to the bulb. Hairs that are in the resting phase must enter the growth phase in order to be removed at the root.

The hair colour determines the presence or absence of melanin and the type of melanin. The best permanent hair removal results are obtained on very dark hair and very fair skin: the darker the hair, the higher the melanin concentration, and the better the conversion of light into heat. On blond or red hair, due to the low concentration of melanin, the process is slower and may require a few more sessions, which only epìLate includes in the full treatment offer, guaranteed for life. Grey (or white) hair, on the other hand, is devoid of melanin, and therefore cannot be treated effectively, except with dedicated machines.
