Threading: contraindications and advantages

October 26, 2023

Threading is a hair removal technique using cotton thread. It is the oldest hair removal method, originating in India, and was later exported to other countries, including Italy.

Many people prefer to resort to this method rather than permanent hair removal.

This type of hair removal needs very few tools, namely:

  • cotton or silk thread;
  • scissors;
  • a small brush and an eyebrow pencil;
  • aloe gel.

This technique is performed by wrapping the thread between the fingers, forming a sort of helix. Holding the ends with the fingers, in the mouth or around the neck, the threader moves the thread over the area to be treated in a swift movement to eradicate the hair at the root.

Threading certainly has many pros, because compared to tweezing or waxing, this technique is gentler and less painful, and perfectly capable of removing even the finest hair.

Advantages

The advantages of threading for hair removal include:

  • speed and hygiene;
  • almost painless treatment;
  • no itching or irritation;
  • gradual weakening of the hair;
  • etc.

For a good end result, it is important to choose a strong yet soft thread that does not break easily or scratch the skin, to clean the area to be treated well before and after the treatment to avoid irritation, and to apply a moisturising or soothing cream after the treatment to prevent any redness.

Contraindications

This hair removal technique has several contraindications:

  • difficulty: unless you are an expert, you could hurt yourself;
  • cost: the cost may be high compared to waxing;
  • use limited to certain areas of the body: only recommended on small areas such as the eyebrows and moustache;
  • slow results: at least two sessions per month for two years are recommended for visible results.

Conclusion

Does it make sense to choose this hair removal technique when permanent hair removal offers better results, on any body part, in less time and from the first session?

We hope the answer is obvious. We look forward to seeing you in one of our centres for a free consultation and to try our technology: the best available in the field of permanent hair removal.
