Women typically use Brazilian hair removal for pubic hair and the bikini area, but it is also used for other areas.
This method originated in the 1980s in a Brazilian beauty parlour in the United States, and has become very widespread, partly due to its popularity among Hollywood actresses.
Brazilian hair removal and Brazilian waxing
Let’s start with two key definitions to avoid confusion.
- Brazilian hair removal: this term refers to a treatment in which a particular portion of hair is removed, carried out with classic depilatory strips and different types of waxes of natural origin.
- Brazilian waxing: this term refers to a specific technique with a particular kind of wax that needs a maximum temperature of 40 °C, based on honey, aloe vera, argan oil or beeswax. The wax is worked with the hands and applied to the skin, then pulled away firmly.
The aim of Brazilian waxing is to rip out the hair bulbs, not just the hair above the surface. It is more painful, but also more effective.
Alternatives
There are several alternatives to Brazilian hair removal and Brazilian waxing for women, which are longer lasting and less painful.
