Unwanted light hair on the face is a common issue. But how can you eliminate it?
There are many methods out there, offering more or less long-term results.
Let’s dig a little deeper.
What causes light facial hair?
Excess light-coloured hair may grow on a woman’s face for many different reasons:
- genetics;
- hirsutism;
- polycystic ovary syndrome;
- Cushing’s syndrome.
You may be genetically predisposed to this problem due to hereditary factors.
Hirsutism causes abnormal growth of hair on female body parts where it usually does not grow, which may include the face.
This phenomenon occurs due to a hormonal imbalance: certain male hormones (also naturally present in women) are produced at a higher than normal level.
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a very common disorder among women, and does not always manifest itself in a tangible way. However, some women are afflicted by excess hair (especially on the chin) or intense menstrual pain.
Another hormonal disorder (due to exposure to cortisol) that can cause abnormal facial hair growth is Cushing’s syndrome.
This condition is common among women taking medication for asthma and arthritis: we recommend consulting your doctor to review the timing and dosage of these drugs.
But how can you say goodbye to light-coloured facial hair?
Classic hair removal methods
There are several hair removal methods to consider:
- Shaving: easy, practical, fast, but not very long-lasting, and not recommend for the face;
- Waxing: painful and with a variable duration (about 2 weeks);
- Depilatory creams: cheap and painless at the time of treatment, but can cause irritation on the skin due to their chemical nature.
Epilation methods
Other techniques to eliminate unwanted hair, with longer-term or even permanent results, include:
- Pulsed light: emits broad-spectrum beams, which are not very precise;
- Laser: works by directly striking the hair, thinning it and bringing it to a resting state. It uses a monochromatic light, and therefore requires a strong contrast between the hair and skin colour;
- Electrolysis: using an alternating, very high-frequency electric current, the hair bulb is destroyed and coagulates thanks to the heat generated by the current. This technique has many contraindications with often irreversible effects, especially if carried out by unskilled personnel and with machines that are not perfectly sanitised;
- The best permanent hair removal technology: it uses the hair as an activator and heat conductor, working to permanently eliminate the germinative cells responsible for hair growth. Unlike typical lasers, our technology uses polychromatic light, and therefore does not require a strong contrast between the skin and hair colour.
